John
Tempe Center for the Arts
700 W. Rio Salado Parkway Tempe
In the haunting drama John, a young New York couple grapple with their relationship and with eerie phenomena in a Gettysburg bed-and-breakfast. Written by Annie Baker, who won the Pulitzer Prize for her previous work The Flick, the dialogue in this witty, beguiling play hums with the crackling energy of real life as Jenny and Elias navigate the pitfalls of their mutual repressed anguish in between dealings with the B&B's deceptively sweet and simple innkeeper and their appealingly odd friend Genevieve. Full of flickering lights, self-playing pianos and piercingly specific emotional resonance, John comes to Tempe Center for the Arts from Stray Cat Theatre.
