Into the Woods
Mesa Arts Center
1 East Main Street Mesa
Inspired by the Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales, including Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Jack and the Beanstalk, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine set out to create a story centering around the moral struggles of these famous fairy tale characters. Tied together with one original story about a Baker and his wife, their struggle to have a child, and the witch who cursed their bloodline. This community of old and new characters must come together to save each other and their kingdom, for ever after! Their stories are not always pretty, and they don't all live happily ever after, but the Sondheim music is contagious! You will learn things you never knew you didn't know about these familiar stories. This two-act play is sometimes dark and there might be some evil in the woods. An allegory for life? You will have to discern the moral for yourself!
